Continuum Future FAQs
For Singers
Parents & Guardians
For Teachers
- 01We’re looking for strong vocal potential and musical instinct, not experience or polish. Talk to your teachers for guidance, but please don’t let lack of choral experience put you off. We’re interested in the singer you can become. We’ll take your experience into account to make the process as fair as possible. Continuum Future is all about potential.
- 02No. You don’t need any choral experience. You might sing in school, theatre, or just on your own - all singers are welcome to apply.
- 03No! As part of the programme, we will help you to develop this ability. There are some simple sight-reading exercises at the audition to help us discover your level of experience and potential.
- 04We’ll send you the sheet music and audio for a short folk song in advance. You’ll need to learn it in advance and sing it unaccompanied at the audition. There will also be a short section from a piece of simple choral music that you’ll sing with those auditioning you.
- 05Short exercises like rhythm playback, recalling a melody, singing a melody while another simple part is added, or identifying notes in a chord.
- 06You’ll be auditioned by our Director, Harry, alongside another singer from Continuum. Our Operations Manager, Helen, will also be around to look after you before and after the audition. The atmosphere is friendly and supportive; we anticipate you might be a bit nervous and we take account of this. We’re interested in your musical potential, not perfection.
- 07We want to discover singers with an even vocal tone, the ability to hold a melody, general musicianship, teamwork, and motivation.
- 08Anything comfortable. We’ll be doing the same!
- 09Yes. Everyone who auditions receives detailed feedback, whether successful or not.
- 10Yes, and this includes travel to and from the programme. We believe passionately in freely available musical training so that everyone with talent has a fair chance to develop.
