Continuum present Britten & Beyond, 3rd March 2027
Continuum marks fifty years since the death of Benjamin Britten with Britten & Beyond, an important artistic milestone for us, bringing our music to one of the world’s most iconic chamber music venues.
At the heart of Britten & Beyond are new works by Ben Parry and Joanna Forbes L’Estrange, two of the country’s leading choral composers, whose commissions enter into direct conversation with Britten’s legacy. These new works sit alongside some of Britten’s most iconic music, including A Hymn to the Virgin and A Hymn to St Cecilia, within a programme that traces the musical lineage that shaped his voice - from Purcell and the early twentieth‑century sound worlds of Frank Bridge and John Ireland to the European modernists who opened new possibilities for him. The result is a programme that honours Britten’s legacy while offering forward momentum rather than a simple retrospective.
Ahead of our Wigmore Hall concert, Britten & Beyond will also be performed at the Amersham Festival of Music on 20th February.
